I think the new "movement" of the twentieth century is a desire to be good, to be moral, but on one's own terms. There is no longer God, and we're far into this movement to have no affinity for the Bible other than as literary piece.
Our cultural leaders are therefore self-creating moralists, who gather their wisdom from a variety of sources, including the Bible. The more intellectual ones will have hardened philosophers as their mentors, whose harsh and empty landscape they fill with their own feel-good-self-created morality. Others will simply state their goodness in one way or another, in order to enter into the echelons of The Good.
We are in the era of The Good.
